The Famous
Located on 6th Street and Washington Ave on South Beach, this was the place to go for authentic Jewish-European food in the '60s and '70s. Beef Brisket, corned beef and kasha varnishkas were piled so high on
dishes that it was rumored patrons had to walk out the front door sideways! Later on in 1986, it became The Strand, a bar/restaurant with mediocre food, the place that put South Beach on the map again after the decline of the '70s/'80s. I ran the parking concession here and was known as "The Prince of South Beach" until I left in 1989. I made
more money here in a day then I do now, 20 years later.
